Hey sale rack shoppers. I just wanted to introduce myself before I recap HARD. I guess you could call me the "Know" of Discount Knowledge. Im besties with testes with the "ledge" portion of this blog (See how I come in hot and take the better half of the word? Just like when people take the "best" half of "best friends" necklaces. Motherfuckers.) I'm gonna be DK's alter ego bringing this blog life through music, and recaps. Nice to virtually meet you all, happy to be here. Sorry if that sentence is boring.
I would've posted about this sooner but I was recovering from my rave coma . So here I am, hungover as fuck after a stupid night of getting kicked out of Dim Mak Studios in Hollyweird (yes, I came out of my rave coma and found myself double dipping at Steve Aoki's home base the next day.) Call me an e-tard................Especially right now.
I guess I should start off by giving you my favorite set. Friday, sunset, MOTHERFUCKING LITTLE DRAGON. I'm not really a rave kid, but the tickets were comp'd and I can't say no to anything if it's free. Except those people who stand on the sidewalk with "Free Hugs" signs. That is NONSENSE and I will NOT hug you. God, that sentence needs a back massage. Anyways, Little Dragon was my favorite partly because I'm not normally a rave kid but, more importantly, because I'm platonically obsessed with Yukimi Nagano (the Asian-Swedish mastermind of the group). At one point she was bashing a tambourine on her head which really sent me from six to midnight if you know what I mean.
Side note: Who else feels unsettled about the Drake remix to SBTRKT's "Wildfire"? Shut up Drake, please go back to being handicapped.
On Saturday we ate some disco biscuits and mobbed to the Red Bull Discotheque to peep Kill Frenzy, and let me tell you, booties were clapping all over the place. Not to mention he was rocking a shirt that said "Make that booty clap." Normally I would hate that so hard, but since it was Kill Frenzy and I was rolling balls I loved the shit out of it. Anyways, Kill Frenzy and clapping asscheeks are not the point of the story. What I wanted to mention is how adorable it was that Red Bull was the "energy source" at a RAVE. Who are we kidding? Their stage was cool though, and they're gonna stream some of the sets on their website so we can all have fucked out flashbacks so I can appreciate that.
Other notable sets: BLOC PARTY (!!!), Bloody Beetroots (who opened with Ralph Stanley just like they did at Tomorrowland, awesome), Boys Noize, Fake Blood, A-Trak, James Murphy.... yeah.
Anyway, that's all I really remember, so that's all I have to say about that. Not to mention I have a raging hangover and I'm gonna go toss my cookies. Look out for the Outside Lands festival recap after this weekend. Mainly looking forward to Metallica..... PSYCHE.
Make it nasty,
-K
